I'm a mathematical physicist at the University of Sheffield, on leave from CNRS.
I'm a member of the Sheffield Algebraic Geometry and Mathematical Physics group.
My wife Cristina is also a mathematician. Our daughter made an even better live sketch of one of her talks on her page.

My research field lies at the intersection of Geometry and Mathematical Physics. I work on the mathematical aspects of String Theory and their interface with Integrable Systems and Algebraic Geometry.
For the period 2018-24 I've been supported by the EPSRC Fellowship grant "Mirror symmetry, quantum curves and integrable systems".
I did my undergraduate studies in Physics in Milan, and I got my PhD in Mathematical Physics at SISSA, Trieste in 2009 under the supervision of Boris Dubrovin and Alessandro Tanzini.
I then spent time as a postdoc at the University of Geneva (2009-11), and later at Imperial College London (Marie Curie Fellow, 2011-13).
I obtained a CNRS permanent research post based at the University of Montpellier in 2013, and held visiting research positions again at Imperial College (2016-18) and MSRI Berkeley (2018), following which I took up an academic post in Birmingham in 2018. I joined the University of Sheffield in 2019, on leave from CNRS.
My CV is here.
In 2024/25, I am teaching MAS332-Complex Analysis (Semester 1) and MAS61016-Analytical Dynamics and Classical Field Theory (Semester 2).
I serve, as of 1 Sep 2025, as the Director of Postgraduate Research for the Faculty of Science, having recently held a number of research leadership roles in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (Fellowships Lead, Maths PGR Lead) and (Deputy Director of Research, Head of Cluster).
Outside the University of Sheffield, I am a member of the EPSRC Strategic Advisory of Team for Mathematical Sciences.
